The Vegan Conservatives group is disappointed to learn that the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill has fallen. The Bill, written and tabled by Conservative MP Henry Smith, faced more then 60 unwelcome amendments at Committee Stage in the House of Lords, leading to the debate exceeding Parliamentary time.
The Bill had already completed its passage in the House of Commons with support from all parties. It would have delivered on a Conservative manifesto pledge and part of Defra's 2021 Action Plan for Animal Welfare.
Banning trophy hunting imports also enjoys very broad support, with 86% of people agreeing in the UK according to a recent poll.
Vegan Conservatives urge the Government to bring the ban back onto the statute book.
