Rumours are that, following Zac Goldsmith's sacking from Government, PM Liz Truss is likely to drop more parts of the Action Plan for Animal Welfare. The Animals (Abroad) Bill was ditched last week and it is possible that more parts of the plan will also be discarded.
Vegan Conservatives' Lorraine Platt, Co-Founder of the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation, says, “Fur farms and foie gras farms have been banned for years on the grounds of their unacceptable cruelty. It is, therefore, illogical that we are still able to import these products. This contradiction needs to be addressed.”
Dropping this legislation from Parliament is might be considered undemocratic, since the Conservative Manifesto of 2019 explicitly featured plans to end live export and other measures.
